Retford Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Market Square Street Party – Plan A is the one!

Untitled 1 Recovered Recovered

Retford will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee from 12noon to 6pm on Sunday 5th June 2022 with a street party on the Market Square. Plan A wins out! At the meeting of the Retford Platinum Jubilee Task Group lead by Retford Business Forum on Monday 30th May, the decision was taken to go for the good weather option – Plan A. Two options were being considered for the Retford Platinum Jubilee Celebrations – Plan A, if it looked like being fine weather, and Plan B if rain was likely. The weather is never a certainty, but the team felt optimistic and went for Plan A.

It’s a great chance for everyone to get together and spend some time getting to know each other. There will be welcomes from local VIPs at 1.00pm, and children’s entertainers including a face-painter, a crown-making workshop, Debutots story-telling, and the ever-popular Professor Paul Temple’s Punch & Judy Show.

There will be tables and chairs provided on the square for people to consume their own food and drink, or to purchase from the excellent restaurants, cafes and mobile food-stalls nearby. Entertainment will be provided by local DJ, Russ Brett, playing music for the whole family from the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Local singer, Jessica Mary Brett, will be providing live performances during the afternoon, as will members of the Worksop Salvation Army Brass Band.

In the Town Hall Buttermarket, there will be a café provided by Goodwin Hall and a memory-wall, created by the team at Bassetlaw Museum. There will also be craft stalls providing a range of gifts…..and hopefully, some Jubilee souvenirs!

Let’s hope it is a sunny day and our street party on the square will give people the opportunity to get together and enjoy each other’s company, whether they bring their own food, or take advantage of the stalls and cafes in and around the square.

Retford Business Forum, supported by the Bassetlaw District Council Markets Team and Handy Andy from the North Notts BID has been putting up a kilometre of bunting around the town which they hope will stay up across the summer to brighten things up in the sunshine.

Rick Brand, Chair of the Retford Business Forum said: “Retford Business Forum is delighted to be working in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council, North Notts BID and the Retford Charter Trustees to provide the Retford Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. Without the help of our partner organisations, we would not be able to put on this event, and we are very grateful for their support”
