NEW RADIO SYSTEM TO CUT CRIME ACROSS NORTH NOTTS

NORTH NOTTS BID has officially launched a brand-new radio system that will help reduce criminal activity and further develop the positive work of the North Notts Business Crime Partnership.

Hand-held radios are available free of charge to BID members that attend Pub Watch and Shop Watch meetings in Worksop and Retford.

The new system will enable businesses to share information relating to crime incidents and strengthen relationships with Nottinghamshire Police, Bassetlaw District Council and Neighbourhood Watch in order to fight the negative implications of anti-social behaviour.

In addition to greater communication between businesses, the council and police, the new system delivers greater protection to employees, particularly those working alone or in the evening. Other benefits include reducing the likelihood of stock losses as well as providing clear links to licensing objectives for licensed traders.

Retford-based Radiotronics was chosen to supply and install the new system which involved replacing the existing, out-dated system, with a digital, portable system that connects over 100 businesses with the CCTV control room of Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire Police.

Sally Gillborn, chief executive of North Notts BID, said: “This vital radio link means BID members can contact the police and CCTV control room quickly, informing them of incidents as they occur, improving the chance of capturing vital evidence.

“This is an important part of our work to make towns in North Nottinghamshire safer for shoppers, staff and visitors.”

Specialist training has already been completed and a dedicated Code of Conduct signed by those businesses that now have access to the valuable new service.

Launched in June 2019, the Business Crime Partnership, developed and delivered by North Notts BID, was created following feedback by members that safety and security was a key priority for their future security and economic success.
