L Jackson & Co is a long-established, family-run business based in the heart of Bassetlaw, with a history that stretches back over 70 years. Founded in 1950 by Luther Jackson, the company has grown from its early beginnings into a highly respected specialist supplier of ex-military vehicles, plant and equipment, operating on a global scale while remaining firmly rooted in the local area.
Originally based at an alternative site in its early years, the business relocated during the 1960s to its current home at what is now known as The Rocket Site in Misson, a former Bloodhound missile base. This unique 60-acre location continues to support the company’s expanding operations today. The business remains in family hands, with Luther Jackson’s grandsons, Matthew Jackson and Jonathan Ainsworth-Jackson, now leading the company and carrying forward the values, expertise and reputation built over three generations.
L Jackson & Co specialises in the purchase, refurbishment and resale of surplus military vehicles and equipment. This includes sourcing used stock from NATO and other defence organisations, refurbishing vehicles in-house, and supplying them to governments, military bodies, commercial organisations and specialist private buyers both in the UK and internationally. With stock of over 1,000 vehicles available which ranges from Land Rovers, 4×4, 6×6 & 8×8 trucks, specialist tracked all terrain vehicles and plant machinery. Over the last 12 months alone, the company has successfully supplied more than 500 vehicles, reflecting both the scale of their operation and the trust placed in them by their clients.
The site itself includes seven large modern warehouses, each measuring 30,000 square feet, along with workshop and paint shop facilities as well as extensive secure outdoor areas. In addition to their core operations, the business currently has potential storage availability, with several storage points on adjacent land available to lease, offering flexible solutions for vehicle or equipment storage.
Employing around 20 local staff, L Jackson & Co prides itself on being a close-knit, family-orientated workplace. Many members of the team have been with the company for a significant number of years, demonstrating strong loyalty and a shared passion for the specialist work they undertake. While the site is not open to the general public, the business plays a vital role in supporting local employment and contributes significantly to the wider industrial economy of the Bassetlaw area.
