Winners of the Bassetlaw Dragon’s Den 2019 announced!

The event, run by Bassetlaw District Council and sponsored by North Notts BID, took place on Wednesday 6th March 2019 at the Town Hall in Worksop.

The standard of entries this year was extremely high.  Applications showcased a wide range of innovative business ideas that were met with approval from the judges and audience on the night.

The winner of the £5,000 prize for the Dragon’s judged award was Move Better Run Better –  a company that helps runners to improve their technique, reduce injuries and get more enjoyment and confidence out of their running. They do this through online coaching and group sessions that take place in Retford.

John Beattie Owner of Move Better Run Better said – “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won the Bassetlaw Dragons Den event. Of course it was a big shock when my name was read out, but I prepared as thoroughly as I could – learning my pitch, memorising my numbers, and speaking from the heart when it came to telling my story. It’s such an honour that the judges have faith in what we are trying to achieve with Move Better Run Better and with the investment, we’ll now be able to help so many more runners around the world in more significant ways.

Well done to the other competitors and massive thanks to the dragons and the audience for making it a great evening to be involved with.”

The winning application was the High-Ticket Marathon Coaching Program which teaches the runner how to complete a marathon successfully.

John came up with this idea as he felt passionate about the reason people run and end up entering marathons. Having worked with people from all different areas and backgrounds the factor that they all have in common is they find pleasure in the ‘me time’ running gives from their busy lives. John wanted to give new and existing runners the knowledge to safely increase their abilities.

The winner of the anonymous audience judged award of £2500 was Store and Fulfil Limited.  BID Members Sue and Bob Clifford owners of the Party Party Company – a successful online business selling a variety of party favours, decorations and other products via eBay and Amazon.  They developed new business Store and Fulfil Limited in order to provide storage, order fulfilment and dispatch solutions for other businesses who are in need of those services but cannot afford or don’t want the responsibility that comes with owning their own warehouse.

Sue and John Clifford – “We were both surprised and delighted to be the People’s Choice winners at the Bassetlaw Dragon’s Den event on Wednesday. The recognition of the efforts and enterprise of our team is as welcome as the financial prize, which will enable us to move forward much more quickly with our storage and fulfilment service for online businesses, which we hope will bring new employment opportunities and new enterprise to the North Notts region. Many thanks to all involved in staging the event.”

This business idea will bridge the gap for those start-up companies that need the room and resources to grow and their company will continue to provide the local area with more jobs. Sue and Johns existing company offers flexible working for their employees which is one of the reasons the audience felt supporting this business idea was also a benefit to the area.

Congratulations once again to both winners, we look forward to seeing how this money helps your business grow and the positive effects that will have on the local area.
